The beautiful Manor House was used as the exterior of the Colpeper Institute. It is officially listed as dating from the 17th century. However, more recent carbon dating of timbers indicate a date of mid 16th century. The property is valued at £895,000 and was recently on the market.

Watergate House was used as one of the perspective locations for the Hand of Glory when the three boys walk past the Manor House on their way to see Bob, Alison, and Peter.

The famous Australian explorers John and Gregory Blaxland lived in Watergate House. After the death of their father they moved to Canterbury and were educated at the King's School.

General Leslie's mother spoke to a man who was standing at the "Bridge View" end of this building which was used as one of the perspective locations for the Hand of Glory.
